At LuxeYolk Cattery, every cat in our breeding program undergoes comprehensive DNA screening for hereditary conditions relevant to British Shorthairs and British Longhairs. Genetic testing helps us make informed breeding decisions, reduce preventable hereditary risks, and build healthier generations for the future.

What We Test For
PKD
Polycystic Kidney Disease
A hereditary condition that can cause fluid-filled cysts to develop in the kidneys and may affect kidney function over time.
ALPS
Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome
Genetic screening for an inherited immune-system disorder associated with abnormal lymphocyte regulation.
PRA
Progressive Retinal Atrophy
Genetic screening for inherited retinal disorders that can progressively affect vision.
MAN
Mannosidosis
An inherited metabolic disorder caused by deficiency of an enzyme needed to properly break down certain compounds within cells.
PKDef
Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency
An inherited condition affecting red blood cells that may lead to anemia.
CMS
Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome
An inherited neuromuscular condition that can interfere with normal communication between nerves and muscles.
SMA
Spinal Muscular Atrophy
A hereditary neuromuscular disorder that can affect muscle strength and movement.
TRPV4
Scottish Fold Gene
Our breeding cats are also screened for the genetic variant associated with the Scottish Fold trait and related cartilage and bone abnormalities.

Clear Results, Responsible Breeding
Our breeding cats are tested clear / non-carrier for the hereditary conditions included in our genetic screening program. These results are reviewed as part of our breeding decisions, helping us carefully plan each pairing with the health of future generations in mind.
DNA testing is one part of our broader health program and is used alongside routine veterinary care, physical examinations, and ongoing health monitoring.
Our commitment to genetic health continues beyond testing. LuxeYolk kittens are protected by our Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee for the hereditary conditions covered under our breeding program.
If a covered hereditary condition is diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian in accordance with our health guarantee, the protection outlined in our adoption agreement will apply.
